As believers in Christ, we are called to be united in our faith, doctrine, and mind. But what does it mean to be one in Christ, and why is it so important?
What is Oneness? Oneness is a state of being united or harmonious with someone or a group of people.
What is Oneness in Christ? This is the state where individuals who have come to believe in the Gospel of Christ, dwell together in harmony or unity, with the understanding that they are both under the same master. This doesn't deny the fact that we may have some certain differences in understanding or dealings but we are united in Doctrine, in Mind and in Faith.
What unite us together? In the context of Christianity, the essence of our unity is the CHRIST factor, all because we are bought by the same blood, and particularly the Spirit of Christ dwells in us. This is the foundation we must lay, before we begin to build anyother thing on it. Another thing that unites us together is the word of God, so, if you want to know whether we are one or not, you must first check, these basic things;
A. Have I been bought by the Blood of Jesus.
B. Do I have the Spirit of Jesus in me.
C. Do I submit to the Word of God.
All these will help you to fulfill the requirements that is laid upon you as a Believer in Christ. Remember, the key factor is JESUS CHRIST, not Religion or Culture or Nation or Tribe. You may ask why do we need to be one in Christ, can't I just be alone, I don't like to make friends or family. Brother/Sister this is a different case, the moment you believe in Jesus, and you are baptised in Water & in Spirit, you automatically join a new family, the Family of Jesus. For instance, Imagine a new born baby rejecting milk, nurturing or care, we would be worried about the growth and many other things about the baby. So, also are you, you need many things from each member of the Family to become what Jesus who is the Head of the family desires you to become.
Why Do We Need to Be One in Christ?
There are many reasons why we need to be one in Christ. Some of these reasons include:
- Personal growth: We need each other to grow and become what Jesus desires us to become.
- To carry out Jesus' intentions in the world: We can't do it alone; we need the help of every family member to accomplish every task.
- Jesus prayed for our oneness: Even while He was on earth, Jesus prayed for our unity.
- To show that we are Jesus' children on earth: Our unity is a testament to our faith and our identity as children of God.
- To establish the Kingdom of God in our communities: Our unity is essential to spreading the Gospel and making a positive impact in our communities.
Benefits of Oneness
Some of the benefits of oneness include:
- Mutual instruction, encouragement, and correction
- Growing in humility
- Making the Gospel more visible to a dark world
- Getting better, clearer, and sharper in the things of Christ
- Putting out every form of darkness in our communities
- Keeping watch over each other and seeing to each other's physical and spiritual needs
Consequences of Not Being One in Christ
If we don't prioritize oneness, we risk isolation, stagnation, and ineffectiveness in our faith. We need each other to fulfill our assignment as children of God.
Conclusion
Let us forsake anger, hatred, and evil intentions against one another. Let us repent from our wrong attitudes and character, and allow Jesus to make us better. Let us allow the correction of the Scripture, the encouragement of the Spirit, and the love of Christ to rule our hearts.
